Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies
We hiked in the southwest corner of Alberta “where the Prairies meet the Rockies“. The Crowsnest Pass, Castle Provincial Park and Beauvais Lake Provincial Park are situated along highways 3, 6, 507 and 774, south and west of Pincher Creek, Alberta.
There was a daily shuttle taking us to hiking trailheads, offering easy to strenuous day group hikes, before returning to Pincher Creek for dinner and evening activities.
Hikers stayed in shared accommodation in Pincher Creek, namely the Heritage Inn. Rooms were allocated by the Trip Coordinator based on double occupancy and a banquet room was available for evening activities.
There was stop with a lunch on the first day of the trip (i.e. on Sunday), including a site visit and tour of Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump. A visit to the heritage village in Pincher Creek was planned for one of the evenings.

Trips left from the Acclaim Hotel near the Calgary airport hotel, with pickups in other locations before they headed down into southern Alberta. There was a stop for lunch and a visit to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump.
On the final day (i.e. on Friday) after the hikes were completed in the early afternoon, the trips returned directly to the Acclaim Hotel with drop-offs along the route.
This year’s trip dates were:
- July 13 to 18 (Sunday to Friday)
- July 20 to 25 (Sunday to Friday)
- July 27 to August 1 (Sunday to Friday)
The cost was $1,875 per person (GST and gratuities included) plus membership fees.
